Accessing Urgent and Emergency Care
Accessing Emergency Care
If you have a life-threatening medical emergency, you should go to a hospital or call 9-1-1. You may be having a medical emergency if you are having one or more of the following symptoms:
- Difficulty breathing.
- Chest pains.
- Fainting spells, seizures, or sudden dizziness or weakness.
- Severe bleeding.
The Healthy Howard Health Plan includes several emergency services. You can visit the emergency room at Howard County General Hospital and will only be responsible for a $100 co-payment per trip.
If you are admitted to the hospital, this fee will be waived, and you will not be responsible for any hospital fees (however, you may be responsible for some doctor’s fees during your stay).
If you need an ambulance, Howard County Fire and Rescue will provide free ambulance services within Howard County for members. Remember, these emergency services are only available to you within Howard County.
